     <description><![CDATA[<p>This Sunday I told my wife I would be cooking dinner for her.&nbsp;The pork chops were defrosted and marinated in a garlic and sage paste and would be served with a side of polenta and roasted broccoli.&nbsp;The wine would be this month&rsquo;s red selection, Rockbridge&rsquo;s 2007 Pinot Noir.&nbsp;I was bolstered by the fact that there was a recent episode of &ldquo;Top Chef&rdquo; based on pairing pork with pinot, plus the recipe in this month&rsquo;s tasting notes called for pork as well!&nbsp;I opened up the pinot as the polenta and broccoli went into the oven and tasted it to see what...]]></description>

     <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Sometimes, you just need to keep it simple.&nbsp;This month, I received Rockbridge Vineyard&rsquo;s White Riesling and had all sorts of plans to open it in a new and exotic locale.&nbsp;I got married on October 3<sup>rd</sup> and took the bottle with me on my honeymoon. My wife and I had it in our refrigerator all week long planning to have it on a picnic, in a hot tub or some other location...and well...it just didn&rsquo;t work out.&nbsp;We got distracted.&nbsp;Yes, let&rsquo;s leave it at that.</p>

     <title><![CDATA[The Wine and Polo Festival at the Plains]]></title>
     <description><![CDATA[This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend one of Virginia&rsquo;s newest wine festivals, The Wine &amp; Polo Festival at The Plains.&nbsp;&nbsp; Actually a combination of an older wine festival and the Commonwealth Cup, this event featured live polo matches and great wines in the beautiful setting of Great Meadows, home of the Virginia Gold Cup.<br />

We're at less than a hundred days till we get married and already things are swirling about with plans, schedules, purchases and tons of other small things to be done.      <description><![CDATA[On Friday evening, I attended the SunTrust Governor&rsquo;s Cup Wine Tasting at the Virginia Wine Expo, which was one of the opening events for the weekend&rsquo;s festival, which in now in its 2nd year.&nbsp; This was my first time attending, and it was one of the best festivals I have gone to yet.&nbsp; The cavernous Richmond Convention center left plenty of room for both the wineries and guests to taste and chat about the wines.&nbsp;&nbsp; About 50 of the state&rsquo;s top wineries were there, along with a number of food and art vendors.<br />

     <description><![CDATA[In the past two weeks, I have had the opportunity to attend both the Virginia Wine Showcase in Dulles and the Washington Wine and Food Festival in Washington, DC &ndash; two of the biggest winter wine events in the area.&nbsp;&nbsp; While I prefer visiting the vineyards when I can, these festivals were a warmer option, and a great chance to try wines that I might not otherwise.<br />

     <description><![CDATA[<p>As I was driving into work today in the icy, cold sleet that has enveloped Washington, D.C., my mind wandered to the fun of Virginia&rsquo;s wine festivals and wineries on warm, sunny spring &amp; summer days.      <description><![CDATA[For the last Twenty Years we have been a part of our members lives and witnessed astonishing growth in the Virginia Wine industry.&nbsp; A friend, recently told me a story about the Club Founder Berkeley Mitchell.&nbsp; It seems Berkeley was attending a fancy dinner in Northern Virginia and the main wine was going to be a Virginia Product.&nbsp; He was asked to bring his brochures and information.&nbsp; When arrived he realized that it was all a joke by his friends who thought he was crazy to start a Wine Club featuring Virginia Wine in Aug of 1988!<br />
